Grant County tops 4-H Livestock Senior Division; Iowa County Junior Division
The State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest was held on July 22 at the Arlington Public Events Center. There were nine senior teams and ten junior teams that participated. The contest consisted of evaluating classes of market and breeding beef, market and breeding swine, market and breeding sheep and Boer goats, as well as answer questions and deliver reasons. These teams qualified for the state contest by being top teams at the district Area Animal Science Days that were held around the state in June.
The top two teams in the Senior Division will go on to represent Wisconsin at a National Judging Contest. A team from Grant County took top honors in the senior division. Team Members included: Jake Adams, Cody Adams, Andrea Patterson and Amber Patterson. They are coached by Dennis Patterson. The second place senior team was Iowa County. Team members include: Reid Suddeth, Jacob Yelinek, Adam Keenan and Brittany Rhyner. They are coached by Jeff Thomas. Third place: Waukesha County, Heidi Tremaine, Mason Roscizewski, Luke Tremaine and Alexa Roscizewski. Fourth Place: Columbia County, Hannah Taylor, Jessica Taylor, Chase Richards and Chance Richards. Fifth Place: Polk County, Karen Eby, Nicole Dittenbrenner, Reese Johnston and Gus Swenson.
The top ten senior individual judges: Amber Patterson, Grant; Andrea Patterson, Grant; Jacob Yelinek, Iowa; Hannah Taylor, Columbia; Heidi Tremaine, Waukesha; Jake Adams, Grant; Reid Suddeth, Iowa; Karen Eby, Polk; Adam Keenan, Iowa; Mason Roscizewski, Waukesha.
The top reasons team was Waukesha County. Team members include: Heidi Tremaine, Mason Roscizewski, Luke Tremaine and Alexa Roscizewski. The top five reasons individuals were: Luke Tremaine, Waukesha; Andrea Patterson, Grant; Heidi Tremaine, Waukesha; Reid Suddeth, Iowa; Amber Patterson, Grant.
The top beef was Grant County; top sheep team was Grant County and top swine team was Iowa County.
The top junior team was from Iowa County #1. Team members were: Haakon Schriefer, Morgan Fitzsimmons, Paige Gaffney, Jake Steffes and coached by Jeff Thomas. The second place junior team was Iowa #2 County. Team members include: Boone Schmitz, Brady Palzkill, Martina Steffes, Cade Steffes, Brady Palzkill. Third Place: Manitowoc County: Vanessa Roberts, Megan Greif, Ambrose Wiering and Allison Ash. Fourth Place: Waukesha County: Ceara Cull, Brittany Renn, Hannah Tremaine, Jordan Renn. Fifth Place: Chippewa County: Blake Johnson, Laissa Fossum, David Kyes, Bryce Kragness.
The top ten junior individual judges: Boone Schmitz, Iowa; Morgan Fitzsimmons, Iowa; Blake Johnson, Chippewa; Ambrose Wiering, Manitowoc; Haakon Schriefer, Iowa; Zach Mickelson, Columbia; Caden Nicolaus, Sheboygan; Ceara Cull, Waukesha; Paige Gaffney, Iowa; Malorie Schmoll, Marathon.
The top sheep team was Sheboygan County; top swine team was Iowa County #2; top beef team was Iowa County #1. Top Reasons team was Iowa County #1.
Sponsors for the State 4-H Livestock contest include: The Milwaukee Stockyards, Wisconsin 4-H Foundation, Buell Gunderson Memorial, UW-Extension, Wisconsin Pork Association and UW Animal Science Departments.
