Marathon County tops 4-H Livestock Senior Division; Iowa County Junior Division
The State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest was held on July 23 at the Arlington Public Events Center. There were ten senior teams and eight junior teams that participated. The contest consisted of evaluating classes of market and breeding beef, market and breeding swine, market and breeding sheep and Boer goats, as well as answer questions and deliver reasons. These teams qualified for the state contest by being top teams at the district Area Animal Science Days that were held around the state in June.
The top two teams in the Senior Division will go on to represent Wisconsin at a National Judging Contest. A team from Marathon County took top honors in the senior division. Team Members included: Dathan Smerchek, Kelsi Smerchek, Jared Radcliffe and Katelyn Schmoll. They are coached by Dan Smerchek. The second place senior team was Iowa County. Team members include: Megan Thomas, Jacob Yelinek, Reid Suddeth and Erica Thomas. They are coached by Jeff Thomas. Third place: Grant County, Andrea Patterson, Amber Patterson, Jake Adams and Charles Connolly. Fourth Place: Jefferson County, Micaela Wilharm, Samantha Piper, Kim Jablonski and Alexis Timmel. Fifth Place: Sheboygan County, Sarah Lillesand, Kim Beck and Chris Reichert.
The top ten senior individual judges: Andrea Patterson, Grant; Dathan Smerchek, Marathon; Kelsi Smerchek, Marathon; Sarah Lillesand, Sheboygan; Brooke Roberts, Manitowoc; Jacob Yelinek, Iowa; Jared Radcliffe, Marathon; Katelyn Schmoll, Marathon; Emily Petzel, Polk; and Micaela Wilharm, Jefferson
The top reasons team was Marathon County. Team members include: Dathan Smerchek, Kelsi Smerchek, Jared Radcliffe and Katelyn Schmoll. The top five reasons individuals were: Andrea Patterson, Grant; Dathan Smerchek, Marathon; Kelsi Smerchek, Marathon; Jacob Yelinek, Iowa; and Megan Thomas, Iowa.
The top beef was Marathon County; top sheep team was Marathon County and top swine team was Iowa County.
The top junior team was from Iowa County #2. Team members were: Brittany Rhyner, Morgan Fitzsimmons, Haley Yelinek, Paige Gaffney and coached by Jeff Thomas. The second place junior team was Iowa #1 County. Team members include: Boone Schmitz, Brady Palzkill, Haakon Schriefer and Brooke Rhyner. Third Place: Manitowoc County: Vanessa Roberts, Megan Greif, Ambrose Wiering. Fourth Place: Dodge County: Emily Schulz, Andy Boschert, Natalie Siedschlag, Morgan Wollin. Fifth Place: Jefferson County: Taylor Chwala, Danielle Chwala, Kaylee Jablonski, Griffin Isaacsen.
The top ten junior individual judges: Emily Schulz, Dodge; Brittany Rhyner, Iowa; Morgan Fitzsimmons, Iowa; Boone Schmitz, Iowa; Vanessa Roberts, Manitowoc.
Ambrose Wiering, Manitowoc; Taylor Chwala, Jefferson; Brady Palzkill, Iowa; Nicole Dittbrenner, Polk; Haakon Schriefer, Iowa.
The top sheep team was Polk County; top swine team was Dodge County; top beef team was Iowa County #2. Top Reasons team was Iowa County #1.
