2015 Wisconsin State Fair Swine Show

Officials at Wisconsin State Fair, presented by U.S. Cellular, are pleased to announce program enhancements for the 2015 Junior Swine Shows at Wisconsin State Fair. Note: the Swine Health requirements listed in the Wisconsin State Fair Swine Department entry information may be updated between now and the Fair so be sure to review this information as close to the date of your arrival at Wisconsin State Fair.
The Junior Breeding Gilt Show is back!
After a one year hiatus as a result of animal health concerns a non-terminal junior breeding gilt show will be held at the 2015 State Fair. The breeding gilt show will be held on a new day but will have the same great prizes and awards. Junior exhibitors may exhibit up to 3 breeding gilts and will also have the opportunity to compete in a separate breeding gilt showmanship competition immediately after the breeding gilt show. Exhibitors winning awards during the junior breeding gilt show will be recognized during the junior market barrow rotation. Junior gilt exhibitors also have the ability to compete in the open breeding gilt shows being held Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 9. Lodging in the Tommy G. Thompson Youth Center will NOT be available for exhibitors of the Junior Breeding Gilt Show. Arrival: 8/5 after 9 am In Place: 8/6 – 9 am Breeding Gilt Show: 8/6 – noon Breeding Gilt Showmanship: 8/6 following Breeding Gilt Show Release: 8/6 after show
All swine MUST be inspected by a Wisconsin State Fair Health Inspector before unloading. Health Inspectors will be available during the following times: Wednesday, August 5th from 9 am to 9 pm Thursday, August 6th from 6 am to 9 am
Junior Market Barrow Show:
The Junior Market Barrow show is terminal. Exhibitors may only exhibit two market barrows. Eligible market barrows must have gone through the WLIC DNA Identification process.
Junior Market Barrow Show Schedule:
Arrival: 8/10 after 5 am In Place: 8/10 – 9 am Market Barrow Shows: 8/11 – 8 am (Performance Barrows and Bred & Owned Barrows) Market Barrow Shows: 8/11 – 4 pm (Chester White, Poland China, Spotted, Hereford, Landrace, Tamworth, Berkshire and Any Other Breed) Market Barrow Shows 8/12 – 8 am (Hampshire, Yorkshire, Duroc and Crossbred) Market Barrow Showmanship: 8/13 – 8 am Release: 8/13* – 3 pm *Note: the release is Thursday, August 13th (not August 7th as indicated in the letter mailed out).

Open Swine Show Schedule Changes
To provide a more bio secure facility for swine programs, Wisconsin State Fair is excited to announce all open shows will be held the first rotation of the Fair (Thursday, August 6 to Sunday, August 9) and all shows will be non-terminal. This includes the open market barrow shows which were previously held on the last weekend of the Fair. Junior exhibitors are encouraged to participate in the open shows with junior breeding gilts and market barrows but the same individual market barrows may not be shown in both shows.
