7th Annual Arlington Sheep Day Coming Up March 14
Arlington Sheep Day, Saturday, March 14, 2015
The 7th Annual Arlington Sheep Day will be held Saturday morning, March 14, 2015 at the Public Events Facility of the UW-Madison Arlington Agricultural Research Station, Arlington, WI.
The morning program for adult producers will cover facilities, grazing, and health. David Kammel, UW-Madison Extension Agricultural Engineer, will return to the program with a presentation on “Remodeling Facilities for Sheep”, Gene Schriefer, Iowa County Extension Agent and Sheep and Beef Producer, will present his experiences the last few years on “Growing Cover Crops for Sheep Grazing”, and Dave Thomas, UW-Madison Professor of Sheep Management and Genetics, will discuss the work at the Arlington Agricultural Research Station in “Reducing the Incidence of Ovine Progressive Pneumonia”.
Concurrent to the adult producer program in the morning will be a program for youth sheep project members on “Selection of Your Project Market Lamb or Breeding Ewe, Halter Training, Showing Techniques, and Tools for Your Show Box” presented by Tom Murphy, Bernie O’Rourke, and Todd Taylor of the Department of Animal Sciences, UW-Madison and Hannah Taylor, a sheep project member from Columbia County. Attendance forms will be available for all youth that attend this session if your county approves this activity as a qualifying educational meeting for your sheep project
Registration for the Arlington Sheep Day program is $5.00 per person or $10.00 per family and includes morning refreshments and materials. Advance registration is preferred and is available by mail, or persons can register the day of the event at the door for the same price.
The Arlington Sheep Day program will be followed at 12:30 p.m. by the Wisconsin Sheep Breeders Cooperative (WSBC) banquet, Recognition Program, and Annual Meeting. Both members and non-members of WSBC are welcomed to attend the WSBC banquet and recognition program. Advance registration is required for the WSBC Recognition Banquet at a cost of $15.00 per person (youth 10 years and younger at $5.00 per person).
