Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival Youth Sweepstakes Results
The purpose of the Youth Sweepstakes is to encourage youth attending the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival to participate in as many educational and exhibition events as possible and to expand their knowledge and proficiency in sheep production. Awards are given to reward youth demonstrating proficiency and knowledge across educational and exhibit areas.
The goal of the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival youth programs is to offer educational experiences that are high quality and will give youth exposure to and prepare them for future competition. We encourage 4-H, FFA and other youth groups preparing for district, regional or national competition to attend and participate in any of these events.
Events included in the sweepstakes competition were: Skillathon, Judging Contest, Poster Contest, Lead Class, Showmanship, Breeding Sheep and Market Lambs. There were 4 age divisions for youth to participate. Beginners (8-10), Juniors (11-13), Intermediates (14-16) and Seniors (17-19). Overall points were determined by a combination of total points from an individual’s 4 highest scores.
Special thanks to Wisconsin Sheep Breeders Cooperative and Jim and Sue Rupnow for sponsoring the event. The event is managed by Todd Taylor (UW Madison Shepherd) with assistance from Elizabeth Schultz (UW Madison Student), Dave Thomas (UW Madison), UW Madison students, Bernie O’Rourke (UW Madison) and Ron Patterson.
